Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth Smith is a qualified teacher. She studied Scripture and Theology with some of the foremost practitioners in the country. After leaving college, she spent 6 years studying Christian spirituality with the Distance Learning course at Ealing Abbey.

Centering Prayer

She has been leading Centering Prayer courses and retreats since she founded Contemplative Outreach UK in 1989 to share Father Thomas’s teaching with as many people as possible. Elizabeth serves on the International Committee for Contemplative Outreach Ltd., the parent body in the USA.

A wife, mother and grandmother, Elizabeth is passionately committed to the life of prayer and the spiritual journey. She combines a deep knowledge of the principles of Centering Prayer and the Christian Contemplative Tradition with more than 27 years’ experience as both practitioner and teacher.

She is co-author, with Joseph Chalmers, O.Carm., of A Deeper Love, An Introduction to Centering Prayer. This was published in 1999 and has since been translated into Spanish, Dutch, Korean and Indonesian. She has also written and published a number of articles on prayer and Lectio Divina. She has lectured widely on Centering Prayer and related topics.

Elizabeth lives in Preston, Lancashire, and is available to present Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina workshops, courses and retreats. She also offers a Distance Learning Course in Centering Prayer.
